Mark BurnsJames “J.D.” Detwiler was named Vice President of Boeing Business Jets in December 2019. He has responsibility for all Commercial and Commercial-Derivative aircraft sales for the entire portfolio of Boeing Commercial Airplanes to business jet, government and military customers. Prior to that appointment, J.D. was the Business Director for Boeing Business Jets from May 2018, following his role as Director for Government & Military Sales for Boeing Commercial Airplanes which began in February 2016. He previously served eight years in Boeing Defense, Space & Security, culminating in his November 2013 appointment as Director, Global Sales & Marketing for P-8 and Maritime Programs within the Mobility, Surveillance & Engagement Division.

Prior to joining Boeing in 2008, Detwiler served as a civilian contractor to Headquarters, U.S. Pacific Command, serving in the Training and Exercises Directorate, with a specific focus on U.S.-Australia relations. Before that, he served 11 years in the United States Navy as a Naval Flight Officer in three different squadrons operating the P-3C Orion, accumulating over 3,000 flight hours. His initial assignment was to Patrol Squadron FOUR based at Barbers Point, Hawaii, and he was then selected to serve as an exchange officer to the Royal Australian Air Force, which entailed almost three years living in Australia and operating the AP-3C with TEN Squadron at RAAF Edinburgh, South Australia. In his last active duty tour based out of Kaneohe, Hawaii, James was a P-3C Instructor and Mission Commander, flying over 500 combat hours in support of worldwide operations.

Detwiler holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Naval Academy, class of 1995.
