EASA Drone Programme Manager and Senior Air Traffic Management Advisor

Maria Algar RuizSince the beginning of 2019, Maria Algar Ruiz has been the EASA Drone Programme Manager and Senior Air Traffic Management Advisor within the Executive Directorate and reporting directly to EASA’s Executive Director.

Algar Ruiz started her professional career in ITP (ES) working in the EUROFIGHTER’s EJ200 engines. She then worked as project engineer at CERN (European Organisation for Nuclear Research, Geneva) in Geneva. Algar Ruiz was later employed by Airbus as propulsion systems specialist at the Airbus Customer Support Engineering and then moved to Joint Aviation Authoritie (JAA) as technical assistant to the Operations Director.

Algar Ruiz joined EASA in 2006 as Rulemaking Officer for aircraft operation and CNS aspects. In 2008 Algar Ruiz joined the EASA ATM/ANS department, where she held several positions including EASA SESAR Coordinator, acting Section Manager of the ATM/ANS Regulations Section within the Flight Standards Directorate and UTM-SESAR coordinator at EASA’s Innovation Cell within the Executive Directorate.

Algar Ruiz holds a masters degree in aerospace engineering from ETSIA (Madrid) Madrid and in ENSICA (Toulouse). Algar Ruiz also holds a masters degree in fluid dynamics at the Von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics in Belgium.
