Washington, DC and Brussels, Belgium, 17 MAY 2023 – The European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE2023), Europe’s premier on-demand air mobility event, is on track to be one of the industry’s most sustainable events yet.

The event, to be held 23-25 May at Geneva’s Palexpo and Geneva Airport, brings together thousands of business leaders, government officials and representatives from every part of the industry.

All of the Palexpo’s building space is powered 100% by renewable energy. The convention space is the second-largest solar power plant in Switzerland.

In addition, the convention hosts are redoubling their focus on show sustainability with initiatives to reduce energy consumption, offset emissions and other measures to decrease the show’s footprint over previous editions. For example:

  • Energy usage at the convention center and hotels will be tracked, and the carbon emissions from those will be offset, as will the emissions produced by travel to and from the show. All the carbon offset projects supported are independently verified to ensure emission reductions.
  • Lighting usage will be reduced, and HVAC systems will remain off while exhibitors move in and move out.
  • Nearly 80% of the waste generated at the convention will be sorted on site and 48% will be recycled.
  • At least 75% of the carpets used for the show will be recycled.
  • Food will be sourced locally and delivered in vans or small trucks with thermal engines.

“The business aviation community is committed to sustainability and carbon reduction in everything we do – from the airport, to the show floor and beyond,” said NBAA Senior Vice President, Events Chris Strong. “Not only will the event be among the most carbon-neutral editions of the show to date, but it will also feature a two-day summit focused on lowering the industry’s overall carbon footprint. We are committed to sustainability, on the ground and in the air.”

With its Business Aviation Commitment on Climate Change, the industry has pledged to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and carbon-neutral growth from 2020 while increasing fuel efficiency by 2% every year.

In addition to the sustainability of the convention itself, EBACE2023 will include a two-day Sustainability Summit, a gathering of leaders from around the world to discuss the innovations that are accelerating the flight to a zero-emission future, including Advanced Air Mobility aircraft.
