Vaeridion

Ivor van Dartel

Ivor van Dartel designed his first electric aircraft in 2007, when he was an Aerospace Engineering student at TU Delft, with a group of 10 students. After finishing his MSc final thesis project within Lockheed Martin on the F-35 electrical system, van Dartel joined Airbus to work in engineering, operations, manufacturing, program management, and research and technology. He was the Project Leader for the Hybrid Electric Propulsion System of the E-Fan X Hybrid Electric Demonstrator.

In 2021, van Dartel and his Co-founder, Dr. Sebastian Seemann, launched Vaeridion. The concept is based on two main proprietary innovations: the highest possible integration between wing and battery modules, as well as a fully redundant and segregated multi-engine, single propeller propulsion system. The Vaeridion aircraft will enable true zero emission regional flights before 2030, allowing the EU Green Deal to accomplish climate goals without limiting air traffic.

Van Dartel is also an active member of the Alliance for Zero-Emission Aviation (AZEA) and Co-Chairs working group 1 “Rollout scenarios for electric and hydrogen-powered aircraft” together with Airbus and DLR.
