Founder and Pilot, SolarStratos

Raphaël Domjan

Raphaël Domjan is an explorer, lecturer, entrepreneur, navigator, pilot and parachutist. He is the founder and pilot of the SolarStratos project, aiming to reach the stratosphere with a solar-powered aircraft.

In 2001, he co-founded the company Horus Networks, the world’s first solar-powered web hosting company.

In 2004, after becoming aware of the urgency of climate change, he created the PlanetSolar project to demonstrate the potential of solar energy by carrying out the first circumnavigation of the world in solar-powered boat. This first was carried out aboard the PlanetSolar catamaran between 2010 and 2012.

In 2015, accompanied by sailor Anne Quémeré, Domjan sailed more than 300 kilometers across the Northwest Passage in a solar kayak, carrying out the first polar solar navigation in the Arctic Ocean.

In 2020, Domjan made the first jump off of an electric plane and the first solar free fall in aviation history.

Domjan has co-written several books and produced documentaries on his solar adventures. As president of the PlanetSolar Foundation, he continues his commitment to promoting electric mobility and solar energy in Switzerland and worldwide.
